an OVERVIEW

ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC) was founded in 1980 on the basis of giving opportunity to ASEAN student-athletes to participate and compete at a higher-level competition. This also created an opportunity among sport officials to meet and develop university sports in ASEAN. The 1st ASEAN University Games was held in 1981 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. From 1981 until 2008, the ASEAN University Games (AUG) was organised biennially by host countries on voluntary basis. To date, AUSC has organised nineteen (19) AUG. Approximately there were 35,000 student-athletes and officials participated in AUG since 1981.

The commitment of the National University Sports Federation (NUSF) from the ASEAN region has grown in strength, number and quality. The AUSC membership in now eleven (11) countries. The setting up of a permanent AUSC Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia supported by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia since 2010 elevate the realisation of the AUSC vision and mission.
